10 days...

Today, we got to hold up our banner right in the face of the Presidential motorcade! As Bush's "official" SUV limos were about to roll in, 3 young women from Boston (photo above) who were in DC for the Howard University Homecoming events, decided that they had to be part of making history and grabbed onto the banner, striking a defiant pose. They also took fliers and stickers to begin organizing Boston.
Some local DC activists with World Can't Wait joined us in the afternoon; one brought his ukelele, and another brought a booming voice. They held up our banner in front of the White House yelling, "Murderer, Traitor..." etc. Travis also got on the bullhorn, reading the latest developments from the WCW movement nationally, and then we all read the WCW Call in unison. There was a lot of controversy in the crowd outside the White House when Travis described the kinds of abuse and torture being committed by the Bush Regime against prisoners in Guantanamo and at Abu Graib.
A woman from DC came by the encampment who met WCW at the Sept 24 anti-war demo. She has already organized the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL she teaches at to come out for Nov 2. She will be bringing her kindergarden- grade 6 classes to Layafette Park! And last but not least, a young guy from Britain saw us and said that he's been traveling around the US, and has seen WCW everywhere he's gone: New York, Philly, and Burlington Vermont! He wanted to add his voice to urge people in this country to mobilize for and be part of Nov 2. He told us that people need to do more than just say to Bush that "we don't like what you're doing...we need to say WE WANT YOU OUT!"
