Religious Leaders Speak Out at White House Encampment to “Drive Out the Bush Regime”
Join us at the today at noon to hear:
REV. LUIS BARRIOS, assistant clergy at the City University of New York
REV. EARL KOOPERCAMP of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, New York City
REV. PHIL WHEATON, Episcopal co-pastor, Community of Christ, Washington DC
Rev. Luis Barrios and Rev. Earl Kooperkamp are among the signers of a statement by clergy calling on other clergy to “speak the truth from pulpits,” and to join with World Can’t Wait - Drive Out the Bush Regime: “We pray that you will walk into a new future along with us on November 2nd as we resist the present evil face.” They are joining people across the country to“walk out of school, take off work, gather in the town squares and take off from there…” In these Orwellian times when Bush is using a person’s religion as bonafides for appointment to the Supreme Court, these clergy are urging resistance to the “immoral and illegal warfare based on lies, the justification of torture in the name of state security, the campaign of detentions of our immigrant sisters and brother, the demonization of gays and lesbians, the racism, the intensified oppression and repression of poor people... AND THE RELIGIOUS RHETORIC EMPLOYED TO JUSTIFY THESE DEEDS.”
