World Can't Wait White House Encampment

Tuesday, November 01, 2005

one day

The Center for Constitutional Rights held a press conference today in front of the Justice Department announcing a "Fast for Justice" starting tomorrow, Nov 2. There was powerful exposure by different speakers, including religious leaders, about the nature of torture at Guantanamo, and solidarity with hunger strikers there.

Also today, a young woman came by the encampment today, who told us she's been "tracking" this whole World Can't Wait movement since she first heard of us at the big anti-war demonstration September 24. Today, she finally made it down to the encampment. She stayed with us all day, including joining us to get out fliers at one of the Metro stops. Her government teacher gave her an "excused absense" for tomorrow, so she can 'report back' about what happened when this new movement gets launched Nov 2.

We also ran into a crew of young women from a local Catholic college who had already planned a walkout for Nov 2, and took tons of stickers to wear tomorrow. Students from Howard University and various high schools are making their plans to JOIN US tomorrow at Lafayette Park. Our encampment will be the staging area for the convergence tomorrow at 11 am. We have a number of speakers lined up, then all of us will SERVE NOTICE at the White House that there are ZERO DAYS until the beginning of the end of the Bush regime, and then we will march. See you all there!
